A 31-year-old man has been arrested in east London for encouraging terrorism, Scotland Yard has said. A man has been arrested in east London over allegations of encouraging terrorism, Scotland Yard has said.
The man was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command at 0930 GMT in Leyton High Road. Muslim preacher Abu Izzadeen was held by the Met Police's counter-terrorism unit in Leyton High Road.
He was taken to a central London police station where he is being held in custody under Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006. He hit the headlines last September after heckling Home Secretary John Reid but it is understood the arrest is related to a 2006 speech in Birmingham.
It is understood the arrest was a result of an ongoing inquiry. Mr Izzadeen is being held at a central London police station under Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
In September, Mr Izzadeen, who was born Trevor Brooks, interrupted Mr Reid's speech in Leytonstone.
