More than 70 people from as far afield as France and Spain have applied to be the next live-in maintenance worker on an island off the north Devon coast. The post to maintain Lundy's properties was advertised after the couple who currently do it handed in their notice after more than three years in the job. The island is home to about 25 people, generates its own electricity and uses treated rain for its water supply. The new maintenance worker is expected to be revealed next month. A spokesperson for the Landmark Trust, which runs Lundy, said: "We were really pleased with the huge interest and that so many people applied for the job. "It's a wonderful opportunity to spend time in a beautiful location. "We plan to hold interviews in the next few weeks and hope to announce who will take over as the live-in maintenance couple sometime in November." Lundy, which is three miles (4.8km) long and half a mile (800m) wide, is situated in the Bristol Channel, about 12 miles (19km) off Devon, and attracts about 20,000 visitors a year. |
