The A55 was closed after an eastbound lorry went through the central reservation near the Conwy tunnel and collided with an oncoming car. North Wales Police said the incident happened east of the Conwy Tunnel where a lorry ended up crossing the central reservation.
The lorry had been travelling between junctions 17 and 18 when the incident happened at about 0147 BST. The collision occured between junctions 17 and 18 at 0147 BST.
North Wales Police confirmed that the driver of the car died. Two car passengers were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with serious injuries with one in a life-threatening condition.
