| Two further emergency calls were made by other witnesses who said they had seen a car with collision damage being driven erratically in the town. | |
| Neighbourhood response team officers located a red Nissan car being driven in Brighton Road, Worthing, at 2352 BST. They put their vehicle's blue lights on and requested it to stop. | |
| However, it failed to do so and two minutes later the car hit a tree in Grinstead Lane. | |
| Police officers removed the driver from the car and tried to resuscitate him until an ambulance arrived but the man was declared dead at the scene. | |
| A police spokesman appealed for anyone who witnessed the car being driven before the collision, or the crash, to contact them. | |
