On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has warned that "no encampments will be allowed".
A large presence of police officers in riot gear are currently at the University of Texas at Austin. "Instead, arrests are being made," he added.
At one point, a person says "let them go" as officers appear to remove umbrellas from some seated protesters. His tweet came along with a video local reporter Toby Plohetski showing police clad in riot gear entering the area.
Another part of the video shows protesters call out, "There's no riot here, why are you in riot gear?". It is unclear how many people have been taken into custody.
The BBC has contacted the University of Texas Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety for comment.
