A spokesman for Conservative leader David Cameron said: "She has the full support of the national party. After Ms Truss was chosen, constituency association members discovered that it had been widely reported in 2006 that she had been involved in an affair between 2004 and 2005 with Mr Field, MP for the Cities of London and Westminster.
"She was selected at the first ballot with more than half of the vote and is clearly an outstanding candidate. We stand by her." A meeting is due to take place in Swaffham at 1800 GMT to decide if she should be deselected.
