A large blast has hit a market area in the city of Peshawar in north west Pakistan. At least five people have been killed and 35 wounded by a large blast in a market in Peshawar, Pakistani, local media say.

"There was a blast in the central Peshawar and police have rushed to the spot and we fear there are casualties," police official Anwar Shah told the AFP news agency. Pakistani television showed footage of burning shops in Peshawar, in the northwest of the country, and ambulances rushing to the scene.
