On Wednesday, Mr Martin said his government had ongoing engagement on policing and justice devolution and that it was an important issue that should happen "sooner rather than later."
He was speaking at a news conference following a meeting with First Minister Peter Robinson Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
He expressed his government's appreciation of the efforts put into the issue by the Secretary of State and the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.
He said progress had been made over the years and that should "inspire all to bring us over the line."
