Police have named a man wanted in connection with the death of a woman found injured in the street in Plymouth, warning he could be "armed and dangerous". A man wanted in connection with the death of a woman in Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of murder, police have confirmed.
Devon and Cornwall Police named Paul Antony Butler, 53, and advised members of the public not to approach him. Paul Antony Butler, 53, had been arrested about 20 miles away in Liskeard and remains in police custody, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The woman in her 40s died in hospital during the early hours of Thursday having been attacked the night before in Plymouth. Officers were called on Wednesday to reports of a woman in her 40s seriously injured in West Hoe Road, and she was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Det Insp Rob Smith said: "We have taken the steps of releasing an image of a man we need to identify in connection to the murder investigation." The force said a mandatory referral would be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previous contact with the victim - adding this was normal procedure in these circumstances.
He added: "At this time the suspect remains at large and a major response is under way. A police spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with her family at this time who we are continuing to support.
"We believe that this man could be armed and dangerous, so we are telling the public not to approach him in any circumstances and immediately call 999 if you have seen this man." "Officers would like to thank the local community for their assistance and their patience while our enquiries continue into this incident."

Officers said the suspect was about 6ft 5in (195cm) tall, of proportionate build with brown and grey hair, and blue eyes. A police cordon was in place at the scene in Plymouth
Police said officers were continuing to carry out inquiries to locate him and appealed to the public to provide any sightings or information regarding his whereabouts. Police were called just before 21:00 GMT on Wednesday after the woman was found in West Hoe Road
