'Aircraft' search is called off
(about 2 hours later) | |
A major search which followed a report of a plane crash in County Fermanagh has been called off and will not resume unless new information emerges.
The search was launched after St Angelo Airport in Enniskillen received a call about a light aircraft in difficulty near Boho about 1000 GMT on Thursday.
All agencies the involved have taken the decision to end the operation.
Their decision was based on the fact that no reports of any missing or overdue aircrafts have been received.
'Loud bang' | |
The "comprehensive search" was co-ordinated by the police and involved five fire crews, the coastguard and specialist mountain rescue teams.
An Irish Coastguard helicopter also joined the search which took place over a wide area from from Enniskillen northwards to Belleek and from Lower Lough Erne westwards to the border.
On Thursday morning, the BBC's reporter in the area, Julian Fowler, said people saw and heard a small plane and then heard a loud bang.
It is still not clear what caused the bang.
