Almost all of approximately 3 million people who work for the US government have been offered buyouts by the Trump administration if they leave their jobs by 6 February. Since Donald Trump took office, he has made efforts to radically reduce the civil service.
As part of the White House’s attempt to radically reduce the civil service, an email was sent to the entire federal workforce on Tuesday evening with four directives that it says Trump is mandating. An email was sent to the entire federal workforce – about 3 million people – in January offering buyouts, and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) has stripped out government contracts and taken aim an entire departments.
The email said: “If you choose not to continue in your current role in the federal workforce, we thank you for your service to your country and you will be provided with a dignified, fair departure from the federal government utilizing a deferred resignation program,” the email reads. It offered workers more than seven months’ salary, and asked them to reply with the word “Resign”. We want to hear from you. Are you a federal worker who has been laid off or impacted by the layoffs?
