Arrest after Crimewatch TV appeal

Police hunting for a sex offender missing from the Aberdeen area have taken a man into custody after a BBC Crimewatch appeal. Derek Robertson, 44, was convicted of indecent assault at Forfar High Court in December 2003 and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison. A warrant was issued for Robertson's arrest earlier this year. The case featured on Thursday and led to new leads. Grampian Police said a man, 44, was detained in London. Det Insp Malcolm MacLeod said: "We would like to thank Crimewatch viewers for their assistance which directly led to a man being taken into police custody. "Grampian Police are delighted that the BBC and Crimewatch have again proven to be an invaluable ally." He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in due course. |
