More than 7,000 Primary Seven pupils in Northern Ireland will sit the first of the new transfer tests later. More than 7,000 primary school pupils in Northern Ireland are due to sit new grammar school entrance tests, against the wishes of education chiefs.
The children will go to grammar schools to take the first one-hour English and maths exam which has been set by the Association for Quality Education. The 11-plus was abolished last year but, with no political agreement on a replacement, the Association for Quality Education has set the tests.
But the Northern Ireland Department of Education says the tests, which replace the 11-plus, should not take place.
