Sir Keir Starmer is set to warn Trump that history could repeat itself in Ukraine unless the US provides ongoing security support, the Daily Mirror reports. European leaders have launched a coordinated diplomatic effort to try and dissuade Trump from agreeing to a ceasefire deal which favours Russia, with Starmer due in Washington on Thursday.
That warning is also the main story for The Daily Telegraph, which says the prime minister is ready to "confront" Trump and that he will relay fears Vladimir Putin would seek to invade Ukraine again in the future if arrangements are not put in place now.
Starmer will seek a "backstop" from the US in exchange for committing UK troops to serve alongside other European militaries as part of a peacekeeping force in Ukraine, the Times says. Trump has indicated there would be limited US support for any such arrangement.
The Guardian also previews those talks between Trump and Starmer. It says negotiations over Ukraine could prove to be "critical" to ensuring a peace deal which protects Europe's security.
Starmer plans to use the prospect of a state visit as leverage with Trump, according to the i newspaper. He will suggest the red carpet could be rolled out for the US president - as it was in 2019 - as he seeks to move him closer to Europe's position on Ukraine.
Trump's comment that the European Union exists to "screw the United States" is raising fears of a transatlantic trade war, the Financial Times reports. It says the White House is considering 25% tariffs on goods imported from the bloc.
The Metro focuses on developing talks between Ukraine and the US over a deal giving American firms access to the country's mineral mining industry. Trump has sought to make that agreement a pre-requisite to any potential security guarantees the US might offer Ukraine.
The Daily Mail leads on Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch's claim that some of the extra defence spending unveiled by the government on Tuesday will be spent on the Chagos Islands deal signed with Mauritius. The government wants to hand sovereignty of the islands - which houses a joint UK and US military base - over to the east African country but it could yet be effectively vetoed by the White House.
Police are planning to search a loft in the former home of Claudia Lawrence, who went missing almost 16 years ago, according to the Daily Express. The paper claims a "hidden loft" was never scoured by investigators.
The Daily Star's front page features grabs from an AI-generated video which was shared by Trump on social media. It shows a future Gaza regenerated in the president's vision - including a towering gold statue of himself. He has repeatedly raised the prospect of redeveloping the region after relocating Palestinians who live there, an idea which has been roundly rejected by Arab nations.
Finally, the Sun has accused the Princess of Wales of starting a transatlantic "jam war". She discussed her conserve recipe during a visit to a community garden in Wales on Wednesday, days after the Duchess of Sussex launched her own range of jams as part of a new business venture.
"He'll strike again" is the headline in the Daily Mirror, which leads with Sir Keir Starmer's warning about Vladimir Putin. The Times says the prime minister will appeal to Donald Trump to "hold back" Russia, as he arrives in Washington at what the Guardian calls "the most precarious moment for European stability in decades"."He'll strike again" is the headline in the Daily Mirror, which leads with Sir Keir Starmer's warning about Vladimir Putin. The Daily Mail reports the "historic White House summit" will also include discussions about the UK's plans to hand sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. Analysis by the Financial Times suggests that nearly half of the newly reduced aid budget is on track to be spent on housing asylum seekers in the UK. One Labour backbencher describes it as a "horrendous waste of taxpayer money", while another official tells the paper that "the actual figure spent on aid is going to be really, really small".Analysis by the Financial Times suggests that nearly half of the newly reduced aid budget is on track to be spent on housing asylum seekers in the UK.
