Ms Fleming was making her way out of the water when she heard screaming and realised something had happened. Later the inquiry heard from a trainee instructor who said the pool was a challenging jump.
She said that instructors and other staff rushed to help and the party was then moved back to the car park and minibus. Andrew Cookney, 20, a trainee instructor with the Abernethy Trust which ran the Barcaple Outdoor Centre at Ringford, near Castle Douglas, was at the gorge when the accident happened.
He said that the large jump into the pool where Laura McDairmant landed on the rocks, required more technical skill than the smaller one and provided a more challenging jump.
