In an update on Thursday, chief coastguard Paddy O'Callaghan said both vessels were stable and salvors had been on board to carry out initial damage assessments "to secure future safe access to both ships".
He said the Stena Immaculate was still at anchor and the "Solong continues to be held in a safe location by tug", with small pockets of fire reported on the top deck.
All 23 crew on board the Stenna Immaculate are Americans who are currently in Grimsby and are likely to be repatriated in due course, the BBC understands.
The MAIB said it was leading the safety investigation into the incident, with Portugal and the US acting as "substantially interested states".
