A woman has been charged with child sex offences following the investigation into paedophile Colin Blanchard.

The 38-year-old and his accomplices, nursery worker Vanessa George, 39 and Angela Allen, 39, admitted a string of offences last month.

On Wednesday night a 43-year-old woman, from Southport, Merseyside, was charged with possessing and making indecent images of a child.

She also faces a charge of sexual activity with a child.

Merseyside Police said the charges followed the investigation into Blanchard, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

They are not linked to his co-defendant George, or the nursery where she worked in Plymouth.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "A 43-year-old woman from Southport has been charged with a number of offences relating to possessing and making indecent images of a child and sexual activity with a child.

"She will appear at Bootle Magistrates' Court tomorrow."

Blanchard is currently awaiting sentence alongside George, of Plymouth, and Allen, from Nottingham.
