A van has crashed into a number of pedestrians on the Strand in central London, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed. A woman has died after a van crashed into a number of pedestrians on the Strand in central London.
Police said the incident, which happened close to the entrance to King's College London at approximately 11:50 GMT, was not terror related. A woman in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident, while two other pedestrians suffered injuries, the Met Police said.
Photographs taken at the scene show paramedics treating a person on the floor. The driver of the van, a 26-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving with a concentration of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) and London Ambulance Service (LAS) are also in attendance. Police added the incident, which happened close to King's College London and Somerset House, was not terror related.
LFB said two fire engines and about 10 firefighters from Dowgate and Lambeth fire stations has been called to the scene. Two pedestrians were taken to hospital, one with potentially life-threatening injuries, and the other with minor injuries.
The arrested man remains in custody and inquiries are ongoing, the force said.
