Flood warnings after heavy rain Flooding strikes as rivers rise

Heavy rain has lashed parts of Scotland causing flooding and driving problems for motorists. Flooding problems have hit towns across Scotland as heavy downpours and strong winds continue to affect many parts of the country.
Police in southern Scotland said drivers in the region faced "treacherous" driving conditions. In the Scottish Borders, the Teviot Water overflowed and nearby property owners have been warned to take action.
In Central Scotland parts of the A9 was closed between Plean and Torwood, resulting in East Plean Primary School being shut. The River Nith in Dumfries was also expected to pour over onto the Whitesands area by about 1530 GMT.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has flood watches and warnings in place in much of the country.
Police in Dumfries and Galloway have warned drivers in the region face "treacherous" conditions.
