Officers said the girl's next of kin had been told and were being supported. It is believed the girl and some friends were on a slipway by the waterside before the girl went into the water.

The LFB said search operations for firefighters concluded at about 15:50 BST, when "responsibility for the incident was left with the police". Neighbours tried to help after some youngsters raised the alarm.
Firefighters from East Ham, Barking, Ilford and Bexley were sent to the scene. One woman who lives nearby got a lifeguard ring and ran over - but she said she couldn't find the girl.
The LFB said it worked alongside crews from HM Coastguard, RNLI, London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police Service. "I found her clothes - socks, shoes and jacket and a mobile phone and gave them to the police.
"The brigade also deployed its drone team and fire boat as part of its response, with crews carrying out a systematic search of the area." "There was a little boy with her and he said he tried to hold her hand to pull her out but her hand slipped.
A LAS spokesman said they were called at about 13:20 BST to reports of a person in the water at Lowestoft Mews. "It was terrible."
