Flight Lieutenant Ted Nestor - from Stockport, Greater Manchester - was shot down over Germany in 1943, and held at the prisoner of war camp immortalised in the film, The Great Escape.

During his time at Stalag Luft III , he kept an illustrated diary - which his daughter, Sharon Cottam, has now made public nearly 20 years after his death. Here, she tells his story.

Ted Nestor's story will be told on Inside Out, on BBC 1 in northwest England at 1930GMT on Monday 23 November.The programme will be available for seven days across the UK on the BBC iPlayer.
