Pakistan announces military operation against India: Live Updates Ceasefire between India and Pakistan in effect: Live Updates
(30 minutes later)
Islamabad has vowed retaliation after New Delhi struck multiple “terrorist targets” on its territory and the Pakistani-controlled part of Kashmir Both nuclear-armed states confirmed their willing to stop hostilities after days of escalation
Pakistan has launched a large-scale military operation against India called Bunyan Al Marsoos (Unbreakable Wall), in what it says is retaliation for Indian strikes on its territory and the Pakistani-controlled part of Kashmir. The operation, which was announced late on Friday in a government post on X, has been followed by strikes targeting Indian military sites. India and Pakistan have agreed to cease hostilities, officials from both sides have confirmed. US President Donald Trump earlier said that a deal between the two countries had been reached following a “long night of talks” mediated by Washington.
Islamabad said the campaign aims to “protect Pakistan’s sovereignty, security, and oppressed citizens” and described it as a “befitting” response to Indian “aggression.” Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan had no choice but to retaliate after India launched Operation Sindoor earlier this week, targeting what it called “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan. India’s Foreign Ministry has announced that the ceasefire started at 5 p.m. local time.

New Delhi said its operation was launched in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in India’s Jammu and Kashmir federal territory in late April that killed 26 tourists. The Resistance Front, believed to be linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility. While Islamabad denied any involvement, Indian investigators claimed to have identified the attackers’ planners and communication hubs connected to Pakistan.New Delhi said its operation was launched in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in India’s Jammu and Kashmir federal territory in late April that killed 26 tourists. Despite the escalation, both sides have indicated they are willing to halt hostilities if the other reciprocates. However, neither New Delhi nor Islamabad has reported any progress toward a diplomatic resolution.
