Crowds have been queuing at a Salford hotel to take part in open auditions to find a talented builder to create models for a new Legoland site.

Budding builders are being faced with hundreds of bricks at the first heat of recruitment at the Lowry Hotel.

Each auditionee has been allocated five minutes to create an animal model. Successful candidates will need to build famous faces at the next stage.

A hotel spokesman said: "Some of the models being made are amazing."

The auditions began at 1000 GMT and will run until 1900 GMT, said the hotel.

Lego bosses want to find a model builder who would be responsible for developing new features and exhibitions.

The candidate will work at the new Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester opening in March 2010.

He or she will also be expected to work with thousands of children expected to visit the attraction.

A spokesman for Lego said: "There will be lots of opportunities to create their own models, race Lego cars and areas for birthday parties."
