Major fire at industrial estate | Major fire at industrial estate |
(about 2 hours later) | |
Fire-fighters have brought a major blaze under control at an industrial estate in Londonderry after a fire-hour battle.
The fire, at a building on the Pennyburn Industrial Estate, broke out shortly after 1800 GMT on Friday.
Eight crews were called to the fire which had created what was described by a Fire and Rescue Services spokesman as "a dangerous situation".
Mark Derell said nearby units contained extremely flammable material.
"Our main concern was, first of all to extinguish the fire in the central unit, but also stop it spreading to the units either side," Mr Derell said.
"One was full of cardboard and compressed paper and the other was full of roofing material, so we had a very, very flammable situation both sides and our concern was to stop the fire spreading." |
