The 20-year-old van driver, from Urquhart, Moray, died, and three of the 10 people in the works minibus were seriously injured. The 20-year-old van driver, Dean Edwards, from Urquhart, Moray, died, and the driver of the minibus was being treated for multiple serious injuries.
The remaining seven from the minibus were described as "walking wounded". The other nine people in the works minibus were also taken to hospital.
Another motorist was also believed to have needed hospital treatment for shock. Police said they were treated for less serious injuries and have since been released.

All of those in the minibus were workmen on their way to work in the Rothes area.
A 47-year-old driver of a third vehicle, that was indirectly involved in the collision, was also taken to hospital suffering minor injuries and has also now been released.
The A96 was closed for about eight hours while collision investigators examined the scene.
Insp Scott Mann, of Grampian Police, said: "Our inquiries are still at a very early stage and I cannot comment on the cause of the collision at this time. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in Elgin."
Inspector Mann appealed for witnesses to the collision and in particular urged the driver of a large vehicle that was possibly towing a trailer to come forward.
"I'd like anyone who witnessed this collision or was in the area of Burgie at the time of the collision and who hasn't yet spoken to police to contact us as soon as possible," he said.
"In particular, we'd like to trace the driver of a large industrial vehicle that was possibly towing some form of trailer.
"This vehicle was travelling west near Burgie towards Forres about 7.20am today. It is possible that this driver was unaware of the collision taking place."
