The NSW deputy premier and education minister, Prue Car, will take leave after being diagnosed with breast cancer. | |
“Over the weekend I informed the premier that, for health reasons, I will be taking personal leave for an undetermined period of time”, the 43-year-old said in a statement. | |
“A recent screening has detected breast cancer, and I will now begin immediate treatment.” | |
Car said the cancer was caught early and her doctors were optimistic about her recovery. | |

Car, who has a young son, took time off in 2022 as then deputy Labor leader in opposition when she was diagnosed with kidney cancer. | |
“I’ve faced this challenge before, and I’m determined to beat it again,” Car said in her statement. “Testing has confirmed this is unrelated to my previous diagnosis.” | |
