UK inflation remained at 3.4% in the year to May as cheaper air fares offset higher food prices as the cost of chocolate and meat rose. Chocolate prices in the UK rose at the fastest pace on record in May as the overall cost of food continued to climb, official figures suggest.

Chocolate stocks fell to all-time lows earlier in the year, making the price surge.
In the year to May, chocolate prices rose by 17.7%, according to the ONS. This is the fastest pace since 2016 when the ONS's records began.

The ONS said that some of the biggest price rises came from chocolate which increased at the fastest pace for almost 10 years.
