The BBC has contacted Riu for a comment. A spokeswoman for Riu Hotels and Resorts said the situation had arisen from an "operation carried out by the Prosecutor's Office targeting a group of drug dealers in the area".
"The holiday was a disaster from start to finish," Colin said. "It was the holiday from hell." "The individuals involved in the incident were armed when they entered our facilities," she said.
He said the experience had left his family "traumatised". She said the hotel had immediately "activated its security protocols to safeguard the safety of our guests and employees".
