Seven charged with murder as Dewsbury park stabbing victim named

Police were called to Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury on Saturday evening

Seven men have been charged with murder after a man was stabbed in Dewsbury.

The victim, who police have now named as 36-year-old Shahmus Hussain, was attacked during disorder at Crow Nest Park, off Heckmondwike Road, in the Dewsbury Moor area of the town, on Saturday evening.

Paramedics and an air ambulance attended but Mr Hussain was pronounced dead a short time later.

West Yorkshire Police said the men, aged between 18 and 32, would appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The men, all from Dewsbury, were named as:

Saqlain Ali, 21, of Pilgrim Drive

Basit Ali, 31, of Pilgrim Drive

Sakeb Khan, 32, of Pilgrim Drive

Asim Akram, 20, of Pilgrim Crescent

Faizaan Akram, 18, of Pilgrim Crescent

Zeeshan Khan, 18, of Pilgrim Crescent

Asif Azeem, 23, of Groves Hall Road

A 44-year-old man arrested earlier in the week has been released under investigation while a 23-year-old man has been released on police bail.

Officers urged anyone with information to come forward.
