The shooter allegedly opened fire immediately after entering the building’s lobby, shooting multiple people. Police said that the gunman let a woman exit the elevator unharmed, and then took the elevator to the 33rd floor, the offices of Rudin Management Company, a behemoth New York real estate firm.

Eric Adams, the New York mayor confirmed the active shooter and urged precaution.
“New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in midtown right now,” Adams wrote in a post. “Please take proper safety precautions if you are in vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.”
The suspect exchanged fire with an NYPD officer in the building’s lobby at about 6.40pm ET, a law enforcement official told CNN, before moving to the 33rd floor. The same law enforcement official said the gunman was found dead in a stairwell with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and a rifle.

In a social media post, US attorney general Pam Bondi said that the US attorney for the southern district of New York has “set up a command post”, and that “local FBI agents are on the scene.” Tisch said the shooter is Shane Tamora, a 27-year-old Las Vegas resident, and says that the NYPD found weapons in the parked BMW, as well as a prescription in Tamora’s name.
Tisch said Tamora entered the office fresh after driving across the country, making stops in Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa. Tamora’s final alleged stop was in New Jersey at 4.24pm ET.
The NYPD said Tamora had a history of mental issues in Las Vegas, according to Nevada law enforcement.
The NYPD believes that the shooting was an isolated incident.
