Police say the incident happened inside a Co-op

A man has died in hospital after suffering injuries while being restrained in a Cornish shop by another customer.

The 52-year-old man was involved in a disturbance at the Co-op food store in Fore Street, Torpoint, on Wednesday at 16:45 BST.

The force said the man, from Torpoint, became unresponsive at the scene and died in Plymouth's Derriford Hospital on Saturday.

A man in his 40s from the Millbrook area had been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until 1 November pending further inquiries, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

In a previous statement issued on Thursday, police said the man who was restrained had allegedly assaulted staff and become abusive to customers.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact investigating officers.
