A passerby spotted the empty plane with a broken wing and tail assembly in a field in Cotes Heath, near Stone, on Friday and reported it to police. A spokesperson for the Air Accidents Investigation Branch said: "An accident involving a light aircraft was reported to the AAIB on 8 August. "An investigation has been launched, and we have begun making enquiries." Staffordshire Police has been approached for a statement.
