Police said the road would remain closed for several more hours

A section of the M25 has been closed after a lorry caught fire.

The carriageway was shut in both directions between junction 31 at Thurrock and junction 29 for the A127 after the fire broke out on the anti-clockwise side at about 12:25 BST.

Eight fire appliances were at the scene, including crews from Kent and London.

Essex Police said no injuries had been reported.

"The road is expected to remain closed for several hours," a spokesperson added.
