A Moroccan man has been sentenced to death for murdering an Italian working for the European Commission and his Belgian wife in their home.

Alessandro Missir di Lusignano, 39, and Arianne Lagasse de Locht, 35, were stabbed to death in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, in September last year.

The couple's four children, aged four to nine, were unharmed and only the eldest child saw the attacker.

Karim Zimach, 25, admitted murdering the couple during a burglary.

Zimach was arrested when he was found driving the couple's stolen car.

His lawyer said that Zimach was under the influence of drugs during the attack.
