Police seize heroin in house raid Man in court after drug seizure
(about 12 hours later)
Heroin worth an estimated £500,000 has been seized during a raid at a house in Perthshire, police have confirmed. A 45-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with a haul of heroin with a street value of £500,000.
A dozen officers recovered the 4.5 kilo haul and £30,000 in cash from the property in MacDonald Avenue, Kinross, on Tuesday afternoon. Patrick Payne appeared on a petition at Perth Sheriff Court, alleging that he was concerned in the supply of the Class A drug to others.
It is thought to be the biggest drugs seizure to be made by Tayside Police. Payne, of Kinross, was charged with supplying the drug from his home on 20 February this year.
A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with the find. He is expected to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday. He made no plea or declaration during a brief appearance in private before Sheriff Lindsay Foulis.
Detective Inspector Iain Wales, head of the force's drugs unit, said: "Over the last few months Tayside Police have seized record amounts of cocaine and heroin. The case was continued for further examination and Payne was remanded in custody.
"These seizures are indicative of our commitment to tackling drug dealing at all levels throughout Tayside.
"Despite these record seizures we will not let up one bit in our fight against the drug dealers who attempt to make money out of the misery of others in Tayside."
