A fire crew had assisted paramedics with "a number of casualties" a spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said. Helen Randall, who owns the property, said the stairs had collapsed when four members of her family were leaving after a visit.
Police said a scene guard remained in place and the Health and Safety Executive had been informed and would investigate the matter. She said her brother and his wife had been discharged from hospital while her mother remained at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and her aunt in Derriford Hospital, after they had all suffered bone breakages in what she called "your worst nightmare".
