A 34-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman found strangled in a burning house.

Tom Misso-Mboya, of Cedar Close, Luton, Bedfordshire, is accused of killing 33-year-old Azamah Satuma-Koshuma.

The victim, who lived at the same address, was discovered in the property on 11 September.

At Luton Magistrates' Court, Mr Misso-Mboya also faced a charge of arson with intent to endanger life. He was remanded in custody.

Mr Misso-Mboya is due to appear at Luton Crown Court on 3 October.

A post-mortem examination showed the victim, who was believed to also use the name Fatima Taketomo, had been strangled before the house caught fire.

Ms Satuma-Koshuma's daughter was being looked after by the child's father, who flew to the UK from Sudan after the death.

Ms Satuma-Koshuma was studying business through the Open University.
