Glasgow is to lose 350 finance jobs after Barclaycard announced proposals to relocate its Barclays Partner Finance operations.

The company said the plans were part of a programme of "improving business efficiency and service to customers".

About 50 jobs will be lost, with the rest of the posts being transferred to other UK sites, including Cardiff.

The company has informed staff of the proposals ahead of a consultation expected to last until March 2010.

Barclaycard's Neil Radley said: "I understand that this proposal is difficult for the colleagues potentially impacted.

"Barclaycard is constantly looking at the ways in which we operate in order to provide the best possible service.

"We are proposing these changes to remove duplication, improve our internal working and ultimately ensure that we are using resources effectively and efficiently."

Barclays Partner Finance provides point of sale finance through more than 3,000 partners across the UK.
