(about 2 hours later)
Trains both northbound and southbound through the station have been suspended Trains in both directions through the station were suspended earlier
Gatwick Airport train station has been evacuated due to overcrowding, the airport has said. Gatwick Airport train station has reopened after an earlier evacuation to prevent overcrowding, Govia Thameslink Railway has said.
Passengers are currently unable to enter the station and trains travelling in both directions through the station were suspended. Passengers were unable to enter the station and trains travelling in both directions were suspended after a number of incidents on the network.
Rail operator Southern, who operate a number of services at the West Sussex airport, said anyone travelling to the airport is being advised to delay their journey until later where possible. The station reopened at about 14:00 BST but trains will be disrupted until the end of the day, the operator said.
It added that journeys may take up to two hours longer than usual and passengers are not recommended to travel on Monday if possible. Most Gatwick Express services have been cancelled "until further notice", with a limited Southern and Thameslink service running via Gatwick Airport.
The majority of Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services through the station were suspended, although lines have now re-opened and operators said they are working to restore services. A Govia Thameslink spokesperson said: "Gatwick Airport station reopened at around 2pm once we were able to get services back on the move on the mainline again.
Ticket are being accepted on local bus routes and other train lines, including Southeastern and South Western Railway. "Trains will be disrupted until the end of the day, so we're telling customers to check before they travel - as their usual train might be delayed or cancelled."
A spokesperson for Southern said Three Bridges station would be closed for the rest of Monday. Tickets are being accepted on local bus routes and other train lines, including Southeastern and South Western Railway.
Disruption has been caused after a police incident on Monday morning between Gatwick Airport and Haywards Heath and a separate incident between St Albans City and Luton. Multiple issues caused the disruption, including two separate police incidents earlier on Monday, plus signalling problems and a fault on a train.
Services are expected to be affected until the end of Monday. Three Bridges station has also since reopened after an earlier connected closure.
Passengers have been advised to delay journeys until later where possible and to check before they travel.
