Police have praised the behaviour of fans at the first Old Firm football match of the season.

Of the 10 arrests made at the Parkhead game, three were related to sectarian behaviour.

Strathclyde Police said fans at the game, in which Celtic beat Rangers 2-0, had been generally well-behaved.

Chief Superintendent Kenny Scott said: "Overall, there seemed to be a marked improvement in the behaviour of both sets."

Seven of the arrests were for minor disorder and drink-related offences

Ahead of the game, Rangers captain Barry Ferguson had urged his club's fans to heed warnings about sectarianism.

Earlier in September, the Celtic Chairman Brian Quinn had called on fans not to sing offensive songs and chants.

The derby at Celtic Park was the first to take place since the introduction of orders which could see fans banned from football for 10 years.
