A 24-year-old man from Bristol has been charged with attempted murder after a pregnant woman was attacked.

Andrew Elson of Stradling Road, Lawrence Weston, is alleged to have attacked the 20-year-old on Thursday.

The woman, who was 34-weeks into term, was discovered with injuries to her neck and abdomen in Long Cross, Lawrence Weston.

Mr Elson has been remanded in custody to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Monday 25 September.

Mr Elson was also charged with attempted child destruction, aggravated vehicle taking without consent, disqualified driving, driving with no insurance and ABH.

The woman's baby was delivered by caesarean section at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

A hospital spokeswoman said the woman and baby are in a stable condition.
