Blast near Iran embassy in Iraq Baghdad blasts claim more lives
(about 1 hour later)
One person has been killed in a car bomb explosion near the Iranian embassy in Baghdad, Iraqi police have said. Ten people have been killed and 20 injured in a suicide bombing in east Baghdad, police sources say.
Four other people were injured in the blast, which happened at the height of morning rush hour. The attacker, wearing a suicide vest, blew himself up outside the College of Administration and Economics.
The embassy compound was not damaged. Police said the diplomatic mission did not appear to have been the target. Earlier, four people were injured in a car bombing in the Karrada district of the city, and one was killed in an explosion near the Iranian embassy.
In a separate attack, two people were injured in a mortar attack in a Shia area in southern Baghdad, a police source told the BBC. A mortar was also fired into a Shia area in south Baghdad, injuring two people.
The attacks came a day after more than 40 people died in a truck bomb attack near a Sunni mosque in the town of Habbaniyah, to the west of Baghdad. The attacks came a day after more than 40 people died in a truck bomb attack near a Sunni mosque in the town of Habbaniyah, to the west of Baghdad.
