A double-decker bus believed to be carrying school children has reportedly had its roof torn off after crashing into a bridge in Leicester. A double-decker bus carrying schoolchildren has reportedly had its roof torn off after crashing into a bridge in Leicester.
Ten people were injured when the bus hit the rail bridge over Lancaster Road, emergency services confirmed. Ten youngsters were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment for cuts and bruises after the bus hit the rail bridge over Lancaster Road.
The ambulance service is also in attendance following the crash shortly after 1000 GMT. Police are investigating how the crash happened, at just before 1030 GMT.
The children are understood to have been treated at a make-shift medical base at a nearby fire station. About 40 children from Cantrell Primary School, Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, were on board at the time.
The bus was carrying 40 passengers at the time.
About ten people were injured, but the extent of their injuries are not yet known.

She said they had informed Railtrack, who were also at the scene. Network Rail has also been informed and engineers are at the scene.
A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: "None of the injuries are thought to be serious.
"The remaining children are being supported and assessed for possible shock.
"Leicestershire Police are working with Nottinghamshire Police and Nottingham City Council to make parents aware.
"The investigation is in early stage, and officers are looking into events that led to the collision.
"No arrests have been made at this stage."
