Crash closes M40 route to London Fatal crash closes M40 to London
(about 2 hours later)
An accident has closed the southbound side of the M40 north-west of London. A driver has died in a crash on the M40 motorway on the border of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, closing the London-bound carriageway.
The carriageway has been shut between junctions 6-5 near Stokenchurch after several vehicles were involved in the collision, one of which caught fire. A Daf lorry was in collision with a Ford Transit van between junction six for Lewknor and junction five for Stokenchurch in the early hours.
Fire, police and ambulance services are on the scene; however, it is not clear if anyone has been injured. The male driver of the van died as a result of the crash.
Motorists are being turned back on the motorway, with possible problems for people heading for London airports. The route is expected to reopen at midday. The carriageway is expected to remain closed until at least midday. Diversions are in place.
