Version 0 of 1.

Union leaders are contacting Cadbury shareholders urging them to block a £10bn hostile takeover bid by the American food company Kraft.

The Unite union said the takeover would jeopardise jobs and company's future. Shareholders have until 5 January to say if they want to accept the offer.

Cadbury has factories in Bournville, Birmingham, and in Herefordshire.

Kraft has said its offer was "in the best interest of both companies' shareholders".

Unite has also claimed that share prices would fall if the Kraft bid succeeded.

A previous bid by the US food giant was rejected in November by the board of Cadbury which said the offer had been "derisory".
