Crash death lorry driver jailed

A lorry driver who hit a line of queuing traffic on the M40 in Buckinghamshire, killing a mother-of-two, has been jailed.

Paul Allen, 46, from Brynfa Avenue, Welshpool, hit Helen Kelly's car on 29 November 2007 near junction 1A.

He then hit five cars waiting to join the M25. Ms Kelly, 39, from Charlbury, Oxfordshire, died from her injuries.

At Aylesbury Crown Court, Allen admitted dangerous driving and was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

He was also banned from driving for three years and will have to take an extended retest.

Thames Valley Police said Allen failed to slow down for slow-moving traffic that was waiting to join the M25.

A number of other people sustained injuries in the crash.

Don Kelly, Ms Kelly's husband, said: "I am grateful that this terrible situation has come to an end.

"Both myself and my boys can now begin to move forward with our lives and begin to come to terms with life without Helen."
