Roman Polanski's latest film, The Ghost Writer, is to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February.

The French-Polish director is currently under house arrest in Switzerland.

He is detained at his home over his 1977 US conviction for unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl. He fled the US in 1978 before he could be sentenced.

The Ghost Writer, based on Robert Harris's novel The Ghost, stars Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall and Olivia Williams.

Political thriller

Harris revealed that Polanski was finishing the film while he was in prison near Zurich earlier this year.

The Ghost Writer is based upon Harris's best-selling political thriller which tells the story of a writer called in to help a former British Prime Minister write his memoirs.

It is set against the backdrop of a possible indictment at the International Criminal Court.

Harris has worked with Polanski on a script before - an adaptation of his historical novel Pompeii - but it was later abandoned.

Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island will also receive its world premiere at the event in the German capital, which runs from 11-21 February.
