Ripper's letters sell for £1,700
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/8415888.stm Version 0 of 1. Letters written by the Yorkshire Ripper to a woman in Birmingham have sold at auction for £1,700. The 44 letters were sent by Peter Sutcliffe from Broadmoor high-security hospital in Berkshire between 1985 and 1990. They were sold to an anonymous private collector for more than three times their guide price of £500. Sutcliffe, 63, murdered 13 women in brutal attacks across northern England in the 1970s and 80s. The letters, which run to several pages and are said by the auctioneers to be in "fine condition", come in their original envelopes and are each signed "Pete". In one, Sutcliffe writes about posting the letter "on my way back from church". |
