Grant Goodwin from Lanarkshire is the only person in the world so far to have died of a new variant of CJD. Grant Goodwin, who was 30 and from Lanarkshire, is thought to have become the first person in the world to have died from a new variant of CJD.
In a paper in the medical journal, the Lancet, scientists say he had a different genetic make-up to all the people who have died from the disease so far, and that genetic code is far more common in the general population.
