Man's death treated as suspicious
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/wales/8422558.stm Version 0 of 1. The death of a man in his 20s is being treated as suspicious by police who are carrying out an investigation. Officers were called by an ambulance crew to an address in Pen Y Peel Road, Cardiff on Saturday morning. Police say the man may have been assaulted during an incident between two groups at 2325 GMT on Friday. Det Supt Stuart McKenzie said it was too early to connect the possible assault with the man's death. Post mortem tests are to be carried out. It is thought the man, whose identity has not been released by police, had been socialising in the Canton area on Friday night in The Clive pub before going to The Maltings pub. Det Supt McKenzie said officers believe he may have been at The Maltings when an incident took place. It is thought that later that night, another incident took place between two groups of men at the junction of Pen Y Peel Road and Cowbridge Road, where the man may have been assaulted. Det Supt McKenzie, who is leading the investigation, said: "It is too early at this stage to speculate whether the cause of death is related to the altercation that may have taken place last night. "However, we are treating the death as suspicious. "I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened at The Maltings or at the junction of Pen Y peel Road and Cowbridge Road to come forward with that information so that we can clarify exactly what happened. "I urge anyone who saw the victim or has any knowledge of his movements to contact us." Pen Y Peel Road has been cordoned off by police since early on Saturday morning and there has been a high police presence in the area. Chief Superintendent Josh Jones, divisional commander for Cardiff, said: "We know Canton is a very close knit community and we appeal to anyone with any knowledge of what happened last night to come forward." Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 02920 571530 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 |
